Tsanchanim Bakotel

but have you heard their story?
You've studied the soldiers' expressions
as they beheld a miracle,
but have you heard their voices?
You've noticed the tears between the
grainy black-and-white,
but did you hear the cry?
Listen to a heart-wrenching recording
of the 1967 capture of the Kotel.

This post would be more appropriate for Yom Yerushalayim (which is when I first heard it at Hirhurim) but it's also connected to Yom Hazikaron. There is a reason I post it now, as Israel celebrates its it's independence and I hear people hotly debating the religious validity of Israeli holidays. I want to show the hardliners who feel no gratitude or connection to the secular State that no matter what your politics, no matter where you fall in the religious spectrum, and no matter how you identify with Zionism, even you will be moved to tears when listening to this recording.
