My (not J-music) suggestions for busting the sefira blues

This is a good old-fashioned no-shtick R&B recording. The Persuasions are a classic a cappella sextet who got started on Frank Zappa's original label. In return, this is their soulful tribute to his hits. Amazon (linked above) has clips of all the tracks. It's worth checking out for some sing-along fun, if you're into that.

Rundgren uses the studio as the only instrument besides his own voice, so consider yourself warned. The results are astounding. (The truth is, I had never considered the problem of manipulated vocals being considered an instrument until I saw it discussed on BloginDM.) Rundgren does his otherwise uninteresting pop hits using his voice only, replicating all the layers and instruments by heavily distorting his vocals and dubbing multiple layers on top of each other. Also included are some totally bizarre tracks--really freaky. All in all, it's amazing to hear what could be done with one man's voice and a good mixer!
